Paneveggio Natural Park

In the Nature Park between the valleys of Fiemme, Fassa and Primiero, on a discovery of the animals and enchanted woods

Not only the melodical sound of the wind. The fir trees of the Paneveggio forest are used to manufacture the world's most famous violins and soundboards. At the border with Veneto, the protected area is the kingdom of the deer, which can be seen in all its splendour at the Visitor’s Centre. Over the woods and dairy huts, where you can taste delicious fresh butter and cheese, rise the Pale of the Dolomites, with the bright colours that contrast the dark rocks of the wild Lagorai.Opened in 1967 around the woods of the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme that for centuries provided valuable timber to the Serenissima Venezia, the Park is home to the chain of the Pale di San Martino, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the plateau described by British explorers but also by Dino Buzzati, with the small glacier of the Fradusta. Great trails and cosy mountain huts are guaranteed to provide memorable hiking and mountain climbing experiences. In ancient times, hunters from the Mesolithic age used to stop in Colbricon, between the lakes and volcanic rocks of the Lagorai, while centuries of mountain life, with its traditions, customs and tastes are chronicled in the precious Eco-museum of Vanoi with its ethnographic trail. The park with the Visitor’s Centre is located at Villa Welsperg in Tonadico, in the beautiful Val Canali. Other centres are located in Paneveggio, San Martino di Castrozza and Canal San Bovo.
