ROVERETO E ALTOPIANO DI FOLGARIA
This region’s area, diverse and constantly changing, urban but also rustic and mountainous, can blow you away at any time of the year. The rows of vines craft the landscape of Vallagarina; the fields and woods of the Altopiano di Brentonico protect a vast array of plant species atop Monte Baldo. Rovereto, City of Peace, is the capital city of Vallagarina. Many museums are established here, among which is the celebrated MART Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the Museo Storico della Guerra (Historic War Museum). The city enjoys an artistic flair and a Venetian-style architecture, and offers highest quality cultural events all year round. Vallagarina is a land of castles. Among the most beautiful in Trentino is Castel Beseno, over the Adige river, a good and proper fortified citadel, and the Castle of Sabbionara, near Avio. It is also a land that offers fine gastronomic productsand excellent wines, like the Marzemino, which you can try in local bars and restaurants, as well as in cellars and distilleries, that are dotted about everywhere. Folgaria, Lavarone and Luserna are the main resorts in the Alpe Cimbra area, that boasts peaks over 2,000 metres as well as pastures, woods and crystal clear rivers. In winter, the Skitour dei Forti, the ski circuit connecting Folgaria and Lavarone, unwinds over 70 km of slopes among the forts of the First World War. Don’t miss out on a visit to Forte Belvedere. The plateau is the perfect gym for those that love to do sport out in the open. There are many possibilities to go for walks or excursions, whether it be on foot, on horse-back or on a mountain bike. Competitive sport has its main moments with the great 100-km mountain bike race along the forts.
