Lake Tovel is the largest of the natural lakes in Trentino and one of the naturalistic jewels of the Adamello Brenta Natural Park. It is located in the northernmost point of the Brenta Dolomites and is surrounded by the Campa massif.
The blue color of its waters, the depth of which reaches 39 meters, is unmistakable and fades to emerald green as you approach the shores. The contrast is more evident when the water approaches the white beaches, a color due to dolomite dust.
In the summer months until the early 1960s the lake was the protagonist of an incredible phenomenon: its waters were tinged with red due to the presence of an alga (Tovéllia sanguinea), still present but with much lower concentrations.
