Hermitag of San Romedio in Val di Non

A spectacular canyon in Val di Non and a sanctuary nestled in the rock

The Hermitage of San Romedio offers an excellent opportunity to spend a relaxing day surrounded by the nature of the Val di Non.

You can reach the valley of San Romedio using the road which starts in the village of Sanzeno. In this way you get to the Hermitage very easily along the Sanzeno river. You can walk towards the Hermitage through a canyon with massive rock walls. The path follows the ancient aqueduct carved into the rock. The elevated pedestrian path is completely safe and it leads you easily up to the foot of the Sanctuary through a truly suggestive landscape.

Here a dizzying path set in the rock leads to the hermitage where according to the legend San Romedio lived in the company of a bear.. The complex was built over the centuries on a spur of rock and consists of five small churches joined by a staircase of 131 steps which is accessed by an 11th century portal. Inside you can admire frescoed chapels and ancient statues and crucifixes.

Before concluding the visit to the Sanctuary, a visit to the fence outside the complex is a must. Set up by the Adamello Brenta Natural Park, it houses a bear inside.
